Key Responsibilities

Recognizing the importance of trade to the Alberta economy, Alberta has been a strong and consistent supporter of removing barriers to trade within Canada and internationally. As the Ministry responsible for Alberta's overall trade policy, IIR:
  • leads Alberta's overall participation in the negotiation of domestic and international trade agreements
  • coordinates Alberta's approach to implementing concluded agreements
  • manages and defends disputes involving Alberta that may arise under those agreements.
