US / Americas Branch

The US/Americas team has the mandate to market Alberta for investment attraction and trade development, and government to government relations in the United States (U.S.), Mexico, Central and South America.

Key activities, managed in coordination with Alberta’s two international offices located in Washington, D.C. and Mexico City, are as follows:

Government to Government Relations:

  • Represent and advise on Alberta’s interests with regard to foreign governments.
  • In the U.S., advocacy efforts to advance Alberta’s interests are focused through the Alberta Washington Office and Canada’s missions in the U.S., organizations such as the Western Governors Association, the Council of State Governments, the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region and by working directly with U.S. legislators and officials.
  • Manage Alberta’s twinning relationships with international jurisdictions, including the United States (Alaska, Montana), and Mexico (Jalisco).
  • Coordinate inbound programs for visiting foreign officials.

Investment Attraction:

  • Promote Alberta’s business opportunities to targeted companies in priority markets to attract investment to Alberta.
  • Market Alberta by facilitating networking events and programs, and contact introductions in priority markets.
  • Coordinate strategic investment and media/journalist missions to Alberta.

Trade Development:

  • Generate market awareness towards the U.S. and Latin American markets to Alberta companies attempting to expand and/or initiate international business. Support market entry initiatives to export ready Alberta companies by showcasing their technologies, products and services in the United States and Latin America.
  • Provide Alberta companies with strategic advice as to how best approach the United States and Latin America markets.

Priority target markets for trade and investment include:

  • North America: Mexico, United States
  • South America: Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela
