International Missions

International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR) manages missions to the U.S. and abroad, by the Premier of Alberta and the Minister of IIR.  Below is a short description of the objectives of each mission, as well as links to news releases and final reports resulting from missions undertaken by the Premier or Minister.

MLA David Dorward’s Mission to Washington, D.C. for the Ports-to-Plains Alliance Board Meeting and “Fly-In” Advocacy Mission

David Dorward, MLA for Edmonton-Gold Bar, represented Alberta in the Ports-to-Plains Alliance (PTP) mission to Washington, D.C.

Minister Cal Dallas’ Mission to Washington for the Pacific Energy Forum
April 23 to 25, 2014

The Honourable Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR), was in Seattle on April 23 and 24, 2014 to attend the Pacific Energy Forum, sponsored by Canada’s Asia Pacific Foundation and the National Bureau of Asian Research in the United States.

Minister Cal Dallas’ Mission to China – March 2014
March 11 to March 21, 2014

Honourable Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations, led a trade mission to China from March 11 to 21, 2014, which included visits to Chengdu (Sichuan), Harbin (Heilongjiang), Tianjin and Beijing.

Minister Cal Dallas’ Mission to New Orleans, Louisiana, for the World Heavy Oil Congress
March 4 to 8, 2014

Minister Cal Dallas travelled to New Orleans, Louisiana, from March 4 to 8, 2014 to take part in the World Heavy Oil Congress (WHOC) and associated meetings to build awareness of Alberta’s commitment to responsible resource development and highlight the benefits of increased energy trade between the U.S. and Canada.

MLA Alana DeLong’s Mission to Washington, Idaho and Alaska for the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region State Capital Visits
January 13 to 16, 2014 and January 21 to 23, 2014

Alana DeLong, MLA for Calgary-Bow and Chair of Alberta’s Representatives to the PNWER Delegate Council, served as Alberta’s representative during the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) state capital visits to Olympia, Washington, and Boise, Idaho (from January 13 to 16, 2014), and Juneau, Alaska (from January 21 to 23, 2014).

Premier Alison Redford’s Mission to India and Switzerland
January 9 - 25, 2014

Premier Alison Redford travelled to India to strengthen Alberta’s partnership with India and lead a business delegation to PETROTECH 2014, South Asia’s largest oil and gas conference and exhibition. Following the trade mission to India, Premier Redford travelled to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.

Minister Cal Dallas’ Mission to India and Singapore
January 9 to 21, 2014

The Honourable Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR), travelled to India and Singapore from January 9 to 21, 2014 to market Alberta goods and services, present Alberta as an excellent place to invest and build awareness of Alberta’s commitment to responsible resource development.
